Avianca Lifemiles is currently offering a 25% transfer bonus when you transfer your Citi ThankYou points to the LifeMiles program through November 5, 2023.
Under this campaign, members can transfer 1,000 Citi ThankYou points and receive 1,250 Lifemiles, including the transfer bonus.
Lifemiles – over the past year or so – has started to increase their partner transfer promotions in addition to their regular mileage sales in an effort to drive revenue.
This Citi Thank You Points transfer promotion was last available in August of 2021 but has now made a comeback for another run, allowing Citibank cardholders to move their Citi loyalty currency over to Liftmiles with a decent bonus.
You can access this campaign on the Citi ThankYou website here.
It’s important to have a close eye on the value of the Citi points post-transfer. Obviously, to use the miles for anything related to merchandise shopping after transferring them to Lifemiles wouldn’t make any sense whatsoever but for flights, it does actually represent decent value with the 25% bonus.
The caveat with transferring loyalty currency to LifeMiles is that you can pretty much always buy Lifemiles for cash at bargain rates. It would be advisable (in my opinion) to keep flexible currency such as credit card points for programs where you can’t buy cheap miles.
There’s also a current Buy Miles offer that I’ll write about later today or tomorrow. On a positive note, it seems that LifeMiles has apparently resolved most of the geo-blocking issues that I wrote about earlier this month, and the site is accessible again.
Redeeming for a variety of Star Alliance premium awards is still a good deal with LifeMiles, especially since miles are available through sales and other campaigns on an almost constant level.
Keep in mind, however, that a points transfer from Citi (any program really) to LifeMiles is final, and even if your trip gets canceled by yourself or your airline, these miles will never come back to Citibank but will remain with Lifemiles.
The same goes in the case of the program blocking availability or suddenly increasing the award chart. Lifemiles has proven itself not to be the most honest and reliable program over the years.
As such, you should have a pretty good idea of what to do with these points and preferably use them immediately after initiating the transfer over to a frequent flyer program of any kind.
Another month, another LifeMiles transfer bonus, this time for Citi ThankYou Points members which might present a good opportunity to move some points with a decent bonus IF there is a feasible plan to use them up better sooner than later.
Also, remember that Avianca itself is still under bankruptcy administration, and nobody knows what the long-term impact of these proceedings will be on LifeMiles, which could undergo rapid changes (devaluations) at any point and without notice, as we’ve seen many times in the past.
These are the Terms & Conditions for this campaign:
Limited Time Offer: Eligible cardmembers can transfer ThankYou Points to Avianca LifeMiles and receive 25% Bonus LifeMiles. Offer is valid for Point Transfer to Avianca LifeMiles completed by 11:59 PM ET November 4, 2023.
As COVID-19 continues to impact travel globally, please remember that once you submit a request to transfer ThankYou Points to a participating loyalty program, the request to transfer cannot be cancelled and ThankYou Points cannot be transferred back to your ThankYou account.
