Waking up to a surprising shift in the Winter Meeting vibes.
If you went to bed early last night, you probably missed a surprising development. Alex Verdugo, formerly a member of the hated archrival Red Sox, is now currently slated to don pinstripes after the Yanks dealt for him. In exchange, New York passed on a trio of prospects, including a pair of arms close to the majors but with tough fits to make it onto the roster full-time in Richard Fitts and Greg Weissert. It’s an extremely rare trade between the hated rivals, and it’s left heads scratching on both sides.
We’ll have continuing coverage of the Verdugo trade rolling out throughout the day. In addition to that, our regularly scheduled programming is as follows: Andrés starts the day off with a look at the potential for Kevin Kiermaier to man center field, and then John ponders Trent Grisham in the same role since San Diego seems keen to combine him in the Soto talks. Andrew adds the latest Top 100 Yankee to the list in Spud Chandler, and then Peter examines Trevor Rogers as a project arm to add for depth. Jake’s also got you covered with a space to chat about any and all Winter Meetings updates that float through.
1. Will Alex Verdugo actually suit up in a game for the Yankees this season, or is he getting dealt around in a separate deal?
2. Is today the day the Soto dam breaks?
