October marks the month of Diwali, and the five days of celebration commenced on Saturday, October 22. The festival of lights is observed around the world by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and some Buddhists, and is a five-day festival with the main festivities this year taking place today (Monday, October 24).

As you can imagine, there’s already been plenty of Diwali celebrations across London this month, and you can look forward to plenty more coming up. Tonight, much of the city’s skyline will be painted by fireworks, but one of London’s largest tourist attractions is also getting in on the act.

The London Eye will flash a colourful gaze over the city this evening to celebrate the festival of light – lasting from sunset to sunrise. When you lock eyes with the London monument, you’ll see a glowing spread of colours and patterns that are inspired by traditional rangoli colours. The display hopes to represent a time of new beginnings and good prevailing over evil shown in the hope-filled lights pouring out.

Imran Tauqir, General Manager of the London Eye, said: “We’re delighted to be joining in the celebration of Diwali at the lastminute.com London Eye with our very special light up display. It’s wonderful to join Londoners in celebrating the capital’s great diversity and we wish a very happy and safe Diwali to our guests, team and all those marking the occasion across London and beyond.”
