Lithium ion battery developers John B. Goodenough, Stanley Whittingham and Akira Yoshino were awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. The batteries helped revolutionize and transform power into a "rechargeable world." Check out 10 things you didn't know were powered by lithium ion batteries. 1. iPhone: A rechargeable lithium-ion battery allows your devices to perform at their peak, according to Apple. The technology allows for quicker charging and more efficient use.

2. Telsa cars: Multiple of Tesla's models utilize lithium ion batteries, including the Model 3 (seen here), the Model X and Model S.

3. DSLR cameras: Digital camera companies Nikon and Canon, among others, have begun to use lithium ion batteries for rechargeable power. Multiple camera bodies from both lines are compatible with these types of batteries.

4. Marine and boat use: Lithium ion batteries are often used on the water, thanks to their dependable and long-term energy source for sailors.

5. Pacemakers and medical devices: Many implantable medical devices utilize lithium ion batteries because of their long-lasting capabilities. The battery power can last up to 15 years before it needs recharging. Hearing aids and hospital equipment also often use lithium ion technology.

8. Watches: Like their iPhone cousins, Apple Watches utilize lithium ion batteries. Other non-Apple and non-ditigal watches use the batteries as well for a long-lasting charge.

6. Electric wheelchairs: Mobile scooters, power chairs and electric wheelchairs also use the lithium ion technology for their long-lasting capabilities.

7. Solar energy storage: Lithium ion technology helps store and maximize power collected from solar panels. The batteries are most often used to transport the energy from the panels to their intended destinations.

9. Apple MacBook: Along with the iPhone, Apple Watch and iPad, MacBooks use lithium ion technology for energy storage and efficiency.

10. Electric cars: Toyota, Chevrolet and Nissan use lithium ion batteries in their electric models.
