Start of classes delayed in EBR Schools due to 'bus operators calling out sick'

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – School is going to start late on Friday, August 18 for students in East Baton Rouge Parish. According to the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, classes will start two hours late “due to a high number of bus operators calling out sick.”

EBRPSS released this statement with further details for students, families and employees in the parish.

Employees will be at all school campuses at the regular time, and the buildings will be open for parents who drop their children off.

Families in the Woodlawn area may see the greatest impact from the shortage of operators. If parents decide to drop their students off at school, the buildings will be staffed and regular classes will begin two hours after normal start-time.

An emergency meeting was held on Monday to talk about bus driver shortages in the parish.
