England's Rugby World Cup clash with France on Saturday has been postponed as a violent super typhoon heads for Yokohama, according to the Mail Online .

The tropical storm is set to rage through Tokyo and the surrounding areas on Saturday, with officials seemingly taking the decision to call off a match for the first time in the tournament's 32-year history.

Forecasters claim that Hagibis is due to hit the Yokohama Stadium area at the exact time that the match was scheduled to take place, with winds set to exceed 160mph.

World Rugby were said to considering a change of venue, with Oita being considered, but logistical problems have made that impossible.

The match was set to determine who will come first and second in Pool C, with the runners-up set to face Wales in the quarter-finals.

Japan vs Scotland is also set for Yokohama on Sunday, and it remains to be seen whether that match goes ahead.

Prior to the decision, England defence coach John Mitchell was playing down the weather.

"I think people are making it bigger than what it actually is. It’s just weather," he tole the Mail Online .

Eddie Jones' side were due to take on the French on Saturday

"At the end of the day, we’ve got a game of rugby to play and wherever it’s going to be played, we’ll deal with it. Whatever is thrown at us, we’ll deal with it. We’ll look forward to dealing with it.

"It is important to understand all the permutations and plan for those permutations. Should a decision be made, we can act. We’ve definitely got awareness of the permutations, but we feel that whatever decision is made, we’ll adapt to anything.

England have won their first three games at the tournament

"We’ll just wait and see. Unless we’ve got something definite, we won’t communicate anything otherwise to our players.

"We’re preparing to play France at the moment in Yokohama and that’s how we see it, so we won’t be giving any information to our players that’s not really definite."
