THE ROCK made a triumphant return to WWE last night as he stole the show at SmackDown in Los Angeles.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is hailed by many as the greatest of all time and kicked off Friday night’s SmackDown on Fox with the full repertoire of fan favourites.

The 47-year-old Hawaii native was given a hero’s welcome by the vocal crowd as he helped elevate SmackDown to a top-tier WWE show alongside RAW on the event’s Fox debut.

Becky Lynch was first out and led to the applause for The People’s Champion but was quickly interrupted by King of the Ring Baron Corbin.

But when the iconic “If you smell what The Rock is cooking” blared over the speakers, there was no doubt who the crowd was backing.

Baron tried his best to bully The Rock and Becky but when Johnson quipped that he looked like a “35-year-old virgin at Comic-Con” the caped Corbin was taken down a peg or two.

But the GOAT did not stop there, calling Corbin a “super tough dude” and got the entire crowd to chant “STD” at an embarrassed Baron.

Before long the action started as The Rock and Becky took turns to punch Baron in the head as the crowd cheered them on.

And then for the moment the fans had been waiting for.

After a leg drop by Becky saw Corbin rolling around on the floor in pain, The Rock lined up for a People’s Elbow.

The Crowd went wild as – eyebrow aloft – he bounced off the ropes at either side of the ring before slamming his elbow into Corbin’s stomach.

Baron somehow managed to regain his feet but with the crowd screaming “Rocky! Rocky!” The Great One slammed him back into the canvas with a Rock Bottom and the historic opening segment was over.
