Northern Illinois quarterback Ross Bowers is one tough hombre.
He took a vicious cheap shot Wednesday night at Toledo but stayed in the game. The Huskies won 31-28 on Josh Richardson’s late 25-yard field goal to improve to 4-6, 3-3 in Mid-American Conference play.
The ugly play occurred early in the third quarter.
Bowers was rushing to his left when he stumbled and was clearly down. The play was dead.
As Bowers began to rise, with his back turned to the action, Toledo’s Terrance Taylor drilled him. On top of the late hit, Taylor went head first with helmet-to-helmet contact.
Taylor was ejected. Ross remained in the game, finishing with 193 passing yards on 15-of-26 passing.
