Arsenal board ‘in row over David O’Leary appointment as Sanllehi fights Sir Chips Keswick’s move to bring legend in’

ARSENAL’S boardroom are clashing over the potential appointment of club legend David O’Leary as a football consultant, according to reports.

The former skipper, 61, is already an ambassador for the Gunners and is in line for a more significant role.

David O’Leary spent 19 of his 20 years as a player with Arsenal

The Daily Mail report that chairman Sir Chips Keswick is in his corner but head of football Raul Sanllehi does not support the move.

O’Leary – who spent 19 years at Arsenal as a player – is well connected to the old guard, which includes Keswick and Lord Harris of Peckham.

But after appointing Edu as technical director, Sanllehi is apparently looking to the future.

Arsenal’s struggles are not limited to the boardroom, with Unai Emery failing to get results on the field.

The under-fire Spaniard got off to a decent start this season but his side have slumped to sixth after a dire run of form with one league win in five games.

Southampton, Norwich, Brighton and West Ham lie in wait after the international break to give the Gunners a chance to reverse their slide.

But despite Sanllehi insisting that Emery’s job is safe, a failure to improve and get results could see calls for his head increase.

Fans have already joked that the ex-Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain chief should follow David Villa’s example and retire.
