Rob Holding has dismissed Patrice Evra’s criticism of Arsenal after he labelled the Gunners ‘babies’ following their defeat to Sheffield United.

Arsenal slumped to a 1-0 defeat away at Sheffield and former Manchester United defender Evra laid into the players’ mentality after the result.

Holding was on the bench for the loss, but insisted Evra was wide of the mark with his comments.

He said: ‘What [Evra] says doesn’t affect me personally. I know what I am and how I like to play.

‘He’s got his opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Just as a group of players we knew it would be a fight.

‘We made sure everyone know that in the changing room [before game]. It was going to be a fight. We know how they’re going to play.’

‘We knew they’d go for second balls and play off set-pieces and we just had to match that.’

Evra held nothing back in his assessment of Arsenal’s character, claiming he always knew as a player they were a fragile side.

‘Sheffield United deserved the win, but I’m not surprised about Arsenal,’ Evra said on Sky Sports.

‘I used to call them “my babies” 10 years ago, and they are still, when I look at them and think they are “my babies”… that’s the truth.

‘I’m not being disrespectful when I say that.

‘They look pretty, but they don’t look like a winning team.

‘They like playing good football, but I was so happy to play against them, because I knew I was going to win.’
