Sporting to demand €100m for in-demand Gyokeres

Sporting Lisbon will demand Viktor Gyokeres’ €100m release clause is met in full to sell the forward during the January transfer window.

Gyokeres has made a stunning impact since signing for the Portuguese side from Coventry City last summer, with the Swedish striker having scored 17 goals and laid on eight assists in 20 appearances in all competitions.

That form has alerted leading clubs around Europe, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Inter Milan among those said to be interested in signing the 25-year-old. West Ham and Fulham are also understood to be keen on a potential deal.

However, Sporting are under no pressure to sell their summer signing and according to Fabrizio Romano will demand the forward’s release clause of €100m (£86.2m) is met to sanction his sale.

Sporting signed Gyokeres in a transfer worth for around €24m (£20m) last summer, after the forward had scored 38 goals in 91 league appearances across the previous two Championship campaigns.

Coventry were beaten by Luton in last season’s play-off final and sold Gyokeres after failing to win promotion to the Premier League.

Gyokeres’ goals have fired Sporting to the top of Portugal’s Primeira Liga, a point ahead Benfica in the title race. The Swede opened the scoring in the 2-0 win over FC Porto at the weekend.
