Ken Livingstone blames Boris Johnson for getting his foot stuck in a tube door

Ken Livingstone has blamed Boris Johnson's poor running of the London Underground as Mayor for his foot becoming stuck in a tube door.

The former London mayor sparked commuter anger this morning when he delayed a tube by sticking his foot in a door.

Mr Livingstone was filmed being told by a member of station staff "you should know better than this".

But he said there were fewer trains because of the legacy of Mr Johnson's stint at City Hall and that the tube drivers were now under more pressure to stick to the schedules.

Ken Livingstone was suspended from the Labour Party in 2016

Asked why he ran for the train when the instruction is always to wait for the next one Mr Livingstone told the Mirror: "Well they used to run regularly in my rule but when Boris got in it got a lot less reliable.

"And poor old Sadiq has inherited eight years of Boris doing nothing - not investing or anything like that and, of course, he came to power just as we had a Tory government massively cutting back on local government spending.

"I suspect as well that tube drivers are under more pressure than they used to be during my time."

In the short clip, shared on social media, the irate 74-year-old ex-Labour Party politician is heard saying: "You're trying to push me over. Open and let me get on"

He then repeated: "Let me get on."

In the video is told by a member of staff: "Ken Livingston you should know better than this. What are you doing?"

The former Labour politician told the Mirror: "I've never had that happen before because you often do get caught in a door and they open it - just automatically open it again and then shut it.

"It's the first time I think in my life I've ever had this happen."

"I tried to get on just as the doors were closing, they closed on my foot and then for several minutes the bloody train driver wouldn't release the doors so I could take the foot out or get in. Just very odd.

"The door closed on my foot and you can't pull it out - I'm 74 and I've got arthritis in my knee joints. I might have been able to do it if I was still 25."

The former mayor seemed surprised to be recognised saying: "I've no idea I've been out of office for more than a decade - he might just be he couldn't stand me.

The incident did not go down well, with one commuter writing: "Ken Livingstone decided to hold up our train because he purposely stuck his foot in when the door was blatantly closing.

"Now I’m going to be late for work."

The former leader of the Greater London Council, which was scrapped in 1986, had his face partially covered by a scarf.

It is not known where the footage was taken, but it looks like it could have been a Jubilee Line train.

Transport for London (TfL) did not immediately have a comment on the incident.

Tube passengers in London are regularly warned not to block doors as this can cause service delays.

Mr Livingston was Mayor of London between 2000 and 2008, introducing the Oyster card system, the congestion charge and overseeing the bid for the 2012 elections.

He lost twice to Boris Johnson , in 2008 and 2012.

Mr Livingstone was suspended from the Labour Party in 2016 after comments on the relationship between Hitler and Zionism, and resigned last year.

He told the Mirror he would not be campaigning for Labour this time - although he would be voting for the party.

"After I was accused of being anti-Semitic nearly three and a half years ago all my work was cancelled I'm just being a dear old house husband feeding the kids and the missus," he said.

"In my entire life there's never been a time I didn't vote Labour.

"I've known Jeremy for 45 years I think he'll be a brilliant Prime Minister like me he has been subject to all these lies and smears and the establishment are terrified of him getting in because he's going to crack down on the tax dodging.
