Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is scheduled to appear in front of a Congressional committee on Wednesday morning.

It's his first public appearance in front of lawmakers since April 2018, when he defended Facebook after a series of events where the company mishandled user data.

During the hearing on Wednesday, he's expected to face questions about two broad components of Facebook's business: financial services and housing.

More specifically, Zuckerberg is expected to get questions about Libra — the cryptocurrency that Facebook revealed earlier this year. Since its announcement, it has faced critiques from lawmakers and pundits alike; several major partners working with Facebook on the project have dropped out.

To that end, Facebook outright issued Zuckerberg's public statements ahead of the hearing on Wednesday.

"The idea behind Libra is that sending money should be as easy and secure as sending a text message," Zuckerberg's statement says. "Libra will be a global payments system, fully backed by a reserve of cash and other highly liquid assets. I believe this is something that needs to get built, but I understand we're not the ideal messenger right now. We've faced a lot of issues over the past few years, and I'm sure people wish it was anyone but Facebook putting this idea forward."

His prepared remarks are just the beginning — Zuckerberg will face questions from Republican and Democratic representatives, including Facebook critics like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

The hearing kicks off at 10 a.m. ET, and you can watch it via the YouTube embed below:
