A naked woman climbed atop a statue on a cathedral and stayed for four hours before authorities removed her.
The woman, who was not named, stood, stretched, and straddled the statue on the roof of the St Patrick’s Cathedral St Ignatius Academy building in Fort Worth, Texas on Friday.
A SWAT team was sent to attempt to talk the woman down. A Fort Worth police spokesman, Tracy Carter, said authorities do not know why she climbed the cathedral in the nude.
Carter said: ‘Negotiators tried to keep her calm, go in there, and get her off the building.’
First responders were lifted toward the woman on the roof in a crane. They tried to reach their hounds out to take ahold of the woman, but she swatted them away, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.
A short time later, the woman reached toward one of the first responders, who grabbed the woman and held onto her long enough for firefighters to pull her onto the platform.
After the woman had been rescued, Tracy Carter said: ‘You see the officers behind me…they were able to safely take her down without incident. And we’re very thankful for that.’Hairdresser screams with terror as rampaging deer smashes its way into her salon
‘We do here at Fort Worth PD — we care about the people. And not that we want anybody else to try this, but today it was a safe return.’
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital in an ambulance. Authorities said they suspect she was suffering from a mental health crisis, for which she will reportedly receive treatment.
Authorities say the woman sustained no major injuries during the incident. It is unclear if the woman faces any charges.
