Season six is confirmed to be the final run for the Michael Hirst-created series. The last outing will see events coming to a head between Lagertha (played by Katheryn Winnick) and Ivar the Boneless (Alex Høgh Andersen). Fans we also see the fate of the Vikings in Britain playing out as it looks like the mighty race could be chased out of the country.
Will Bjorn betray Lagertha amid Rollo revelation?
On a more dramatic level, Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig) could switch sides and join Rollo (Clive Standen) after finding out the truth about his father.
Rollo confirmed to Bjorn that he wasn’t his uncle but actually his father, which could cause ripples.
The warrior has been supporting his mother Lagertha but things could change now. For his whole life, Bjorn believed Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) was his father.
Perhaps Bjorn will take out his anger on his mother for the betrayal and change his allegiances.
Rollo’s admission did have an effect on Bjorn but not enough for him to sway away from his mother. Instead, Rollo left in the last season and may never return again.
Despite the development, it seems unlikely that Bjorn could betray his mother since they are both determined to take down Ivar.
In an interview with Cinema Blend, showrunner Hirst said: “Well, you know, as you can see when Bjorn is told that he basically dismisses it.
“He doesn't. . . say that it couldn't be true. But he says that whatever Rollo says that Ragnar was his true father in the sense of, you know Ragnar brought him up, that Ragnar claimed him for a son, and that he believed deep down that he has the spiritual ability with Ragnar and not with Rollo. So, I don't think that it particularly impacts on his relationship with his mother, Lagertha.”
Hirst went on to tell the publication: “I think that Bjorn’s relationship with Lagertha is the deepest relationship he has with another woman. I think he loves his mother.
“He chose to go with his mother when she left Ragnar.
“He is always looking to support her, fight for her, even when he was a boy, he wanted to fight for her, and he’ll never give up on that... It’s not that he’s simply dutiful.”
The writer added: “He has a very very strong, powerful bond with Lagertha, which nothing can break.”
So, Hirst’s words go further to suggest that the alliance between Bjorn and his mother remains as strong as ever.
They will be fighting shoulder-to-shoulder as they take on their enemies.
But whether they can survive the final series remains to be seen with Lagertha ageing, which could affect her performance on the battlefield.
Many fans have been speculating that Lagertha could die in season six as the fearsome shieldmaiden is slain by her foes.
