UK snow forecast: Where is it due to snow tonight? What is the Met Office snow forecast?

Following a week of plumetting temperatures in the UK, residents in the south west of England have reported snowfall in some areas. The Met Office has urged people to take care on the roads.

The Met Office tweeted today at 5pm: "Heavy rain and hail moving eastwards across Devon into Somerset and Dorset is likely to fall as snow over higher routes.

"This may last for an hour or two with 1 or 2 cm of lying snow possible. Take care on the roads #WeatherAware"

On their five-day weather forecast, the Met Ofice also warns of "hill snow possible" over south Wales and in southern England this evening.

Videos obtained by DevonLive show snow falling over Okehampton and Long Plantation in West Devon.

Highways England South West tweeted this evening: "#A30 #Okehampton #Sourton we have snow falling. Please take this into account whilst travelling this afternoon/evening."

Highways England South West have since tweeted that the road is now "passable", but warned road conditions will "still be hazardous".

Met Office forecaster Mark Wilson told Mirror Online today: "It will be a cold day later in the afternoon to evening, with a band of rain in Wales and south-west England which could bring snow, particularly in south Wales."

Snow depth maps from WXCHARTS also forecast snow will fall in the UK overnight, mostly concentrated in Scotland. 

However, the map also shows their could be some snowfall in Wales.

The Met Office has issued a number of weather warnings for this week.

A yellow rain warning is currently in place over much of Wales and the south west of England.

The warning already covered Somerset and Wales, but has been recently updated to include Devon.

DON'T MISS: 

The warning is in place between 5pm and 11.59pm today.

An additional yellow weather warning for ice is also in place over the east coast of Scotland, affecting the cities of Edinburgh and Aberdeen.

The warning is in place between 7pm today (Wednesday) and 10am tomorrow.

Further yellow warnings have been issued by the Met Office across the UK over the coming days.

Met Office 5-Day Forecast:

This Evening and Tonight:

Rain over south Wales, with hill snow possible here, and southern England. Showers feeding onto north and east coasts of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Less cold than Tuesday night, but some icy patches possible across eastern Scotland.

Thursday:

Further rain for southern and southeast England, particularly southeast Wales and into Somerset, Bristol and Wiltshire. Showers further north, mainly for coasts exposed to the strengthening northeasterly wind. Remaining cold.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Friday, bright in the northwest with a few showers, but cloudier with more frequent showers towards the southeast. Over the weekend showers becoming more isolated with many places dry. Cold.
