A 23-year-old Grayslake man faces alcohol-related charges after he crashed into the Antioch Chamber of Commerce building on Main Street early Saturday causing extensive damage, police said.
Police said Dimitry Skinner, 23, of Grayslake, was driving the 1997 Ford pickup at a high rate of speed around 1 a.m. Saturday before it slammed into the front of the chamber offices at 882 Main St. Witnesses also said Skinner ran a red light at Orchard and Main streets just before the crash, Antioch Police Department Sgt. Chuck Smith said.
Skinner was transported to an area hospital and told officers he had consumed alcohol and narcotics before the crash, Smith said.
Authorities said the chamber’s annual Champagne & Chocolate Holiday Walk from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday was expected to continue as scheduled despite the building and sidewalk being boarded up and roped off, according to Smith.
The sold-out event offers a selection of sampling of champagnes and chocolates as guests walk around Antioch’s Historic Downtown.
The event is still being held and participants are encouraged to check the website for changes at www.antiochchamber.org.
