Penn State investigates new sex abuse allegations against Jerry Sandusky

Penn State University is investigating a new accusation of sexual abuse against former assistant football coach and convicted pedophile Jerry Sandusky, according to school officials.

The alleged sexual assault occurred in the Lasch Football Building on the University Park campus in State College at some point between June 2000 and September 2010, Penn State police and a university spokesman told the Centre Daily Times.

“This incident report is the result of the university’s internal and external reporting procedures upon receipt of a new allegation of abuse by Jerry Sandusky,” university spokesman Wyatt DuBois told the newspaper on Wednesday. “An investigation is ongoing and we have no further comment.”

The report comes just one week before Sandusky, 75, is set to be re-sentenced on Nov. 8 for his 45-count child abuse conviction in 2012.

The disgraced former Penn State defensive coordinator was later sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison, but a Pennsylvania appeals court ruled in February that mandatory minimum sentences in the case were unconstitutional. Sandusky’s request for a new trial, however, was rejected.

Sandusky’s attorney, Al Lindsay, declined to comment on the report when reached early Thursday by The Post.

“I have no idea what they’re talking about,” Lindsay said, adding that he had not yet discussed the matter with Sandusky.

Lindsay and another attorney for Sandusky also filed a petition earlier this month to move his ongoing appeals process to federal court, the Centre Daily Times reports.

“It’s our position that the Constitution was violated in a number of respects,” Lindsay told the newspaper on Oct. 23. “We are looking to the federal court for the same kind of relief we looked for in the state court.”

Penn State University has paid more than $100 million to more than 30 victims who said they were sexually abused by Sandusky, according to the newspaper. He’s serving his sentence at a minimum-security state prison in Somerset.
