I seriously question U.S. Attorney General William Barr’s assertion, as rendered in the Oct. 26 Plain Dealer headline for a Jay Ambrose column about a recent Barr speech, that “Christian values strengthen democracy.”
Which “Christian values?” The ones which rip children from their parents’ arms to then farm them out for “adoption,” just because their parents were seeking a better life in this country? The ones which deny women the right to choose for themselves whether to carry a pregnancy to term? The ones which deny or would deny LGBTQ folks rights because their gender identity is not the “norm?” The ones which deny the right of people to live in peace based on their faith, skin color, or descent? The ones which honor greed, allowing corporations and billionaires to rule?
I could go on, but I believe I have made my point.
Barr’s idea of “Christian values” makes me ill, as the underlying principle of all faiths distills to but one world in English — love! All else is an explanation of the many different aspects of love, from the positive and negative standpoints.
Barr’s “Christian values” support lying, bigotry, misogyny, hatred, racism, sexism, and many other negatives. They drive wedges ever deeper into our society, dividing us, and taking us further and further from "one nation under God, indivisible, ....”
