An 11-year-old girl was shot in the head Monday night as she sat in her Harvey home making plans for her birthday the next day, according to police and family.
The shooting happened around 9 p.m. near 158th and Paulina streets in the south suburb, according to Harvey Police Chief Eddie Winters. She was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition.
He had no other details and no one was reported is in custody.
The girl’s family told reporters she was sitting at a computer, choosing T-shirt designs for her birthday party, when a gunman opened fire outside and she was hit. The relatives said her birthday is Tuesday.
Community activist Andrew Holmes called for the public to come forward with information for police. “Let’s stand up, let’s speak out,” he said. “Let’s tell who these individuals was. Look at your doorbell cameras and see if you have images of these perpetrators.”
