Marcus,  who is an eight-year-old black micro pig, appeared via video link today because according to Phillip Schofield he was "too angry" to be in the studio today.

Appearing from his home with owner Juliette, two batches of apples were placed in front of him, one with England flags, the other with Croatian colours.

Marcus wasted no time and headed to the England pile and munched away, meaning England should win this evening.

Those watching at home were delighted with the results and took to Twitter to discuss their excitement.

The 71-year-old asked Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, who was wearing a waistcoat in honour of Southgate,  to pick up the football, which was used when England won the 1966 World Cup.

He then told those at home: “Everyone get off your seats and come to the screen and put ypour hand on the ball.

“Touch the screen, touch the ball. Focus, concentrate, believe that you are sending positive energy to the players. Visualise England scoring, visualise England winning.”

He continued: “Powerful thoughts, powerful energy and in your mind you can even shout it out – ‘ win England win’. One more time – ‘win England win’ and the last time – ‘win England win’.”
