Strictly Come Dancing 2019 has seen a number of shocking performances so far, resulting in some eliminations. This weekend BBC Breakfast host Mike Bushell was placed in the dance off against former footballer David James. Both acts have struggled to keep up with the speed their fellow dancers have been hitting, and this week it was time for David to leave the show.
This is the third week David was in the dance off, and his strained performances over the weeks resulted in him becoming favourite to be voted out.
Mike, on the other hand, has made some improvements each week, and has gained a lot of favour with both viewers and the judges.
The BBC Breakfast reporter appeared on his show this morning after avoiding the cut from Strictly, where he discussed his weekend with Dan Walker.
On the dance off, Mike admitted: “I couldn’t call it.”
He explained: “We watched David and Nadiya, we watched from the sidelines cheering them on and clapping every step.
“I thought he did a brilliant job - so I certainly couldn’t call which way it was going to go.”
He went on to add: “I think Craig said, actually, that technically we’re both pretty much the same. So there wasn’t much in it!”
Judge Craig said of their performance last night: "Well for me both couples were pretty much technically equal but the couple who I’d like to save were the most confident performers and that was Mike And Katya."
One tweeted: “For f**k sake! It’s decisions like this that makes the general public shout #fix!
“No way should Mike & Katya go through! #Strictly.”
Another said: “This is a right fix… Mike saved #Strictly.”
While a third added: “What an absolute fix #strictly.”
Back on BBC Breakfast, Mike continued to discuss how much work he has put into his act so far.
He said: “As long as we’ve put the hours in, as long as you’ve done your work, listen to your partner, listen to your judges, try to improve each week, you can’t do any more.
“And you have to think, well, if we’re going out, go out with your head held high. Have fun enjoy it!”
On this weekend’s show David was involved in an awkward blunder with Claudia Winkleman.
After congratulating David for his performance Claudia announced: “We also have to mention your mum who’s in the audience.”
As the camera panned to the star’s mother, she didn’t look to thrilled.
David jumped in to say: “Yeah my mum who doesn’t like cameras.”
Seemingly frustrated, he added: “She’s on the camera, thanks for that.”
