Green Party co-leader Jonathan Bartley and climate activist George Monbiot have been arrested after joining Extinction Rebellion protesters on Whitehall.
The party confirmed Mr Bartley's arrest on Twitter, writing: “Our co-leader Jonathan Bartley has been arrested on Whitehall whilst peacefully protesting.”
Mr Monbiot was pictured refusing to move from the road at Whitehall, where he was then arrested.
The 56-year-old had been warned by police if he continued to obstruct the highway he would be detained for a breach of public order.
He was surrounded by Extinction Rebellion supporters before his arrest, including 20 “red brigade” protesters.
