Cast your vote for Erika Coble for Berea’s Ward 4 City Council seat

Two people are seeking the Ward 4 seat on Berea City Council. One, Kim Smith, is the mayor’s selection. I’ve never spoken with her, but trust she is a bright and qualified candidate. The other, Erika Coble, a longtime resident of our neighborhood, I know to be bright and qualified.

The mayor has facilitated several improvements around the city and, I expect, if granted another term, both candidates would support his initiatives when they are in the best interest of the neighborhood and/or the city.

But the mayor has also passed on opportunities: One would have greatly benefited our neighborhood, namely the restoration of our historic brick streets. At the time, our neighborhood lacked effective council representation.

The difference, as I see it, between these two candidates will show itself when the mayor and his team are either uninformed or ignoring our neighborhood’s interest. In those cases, Kim may be inclined to take a back seat; after all, she was handpicked by the mayor, who would expect allegiance. In contrast, what I know to be true is that Erika will stand up and fully represent our neighborhood’s position.

To me, the election in Ward 4 is about the certainty of having an independent voice, seated at the table, representing our neighborhood’s interest when most needed. For that, I hope you will join me in placing Erika Coble in the Ward 4 council seat.
