There is fresh hope that a crew aboard a Titanic tourist submarine that was heading for the wreckage of the ill-fated ship is still alive, nearly two days after it went missing.

A rescue mission has been ongoing since Sunday to try and find the OceanGate Expeditions submersible Titan, which was carrying five passengers when it went missing in the Atlantic Ocean.

But with less than 24 hours of oxygen left in the sub, search teams said they heard ‘underwater noises’ this morning giving them hope that there were potential signs of life.

Rear Admiral John Mauger of the US Coast Guard, who is leading the search said the noise ‘is a target’ for the search teams.

Among those missing on the Titan are British billionaire explorer Hamish Harding, renowned French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet and Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood.

On Monday afternoon (June 19), Rear Admiral John Mauger of the US Coast Guard said Titan had between 70-96 hours of oxygen left, sparking a race against the clock to find the craft.

The vessel submerged on Sunday morning (June 18), and its mothership – the Canadian research icebreaker MV Polar Prince – lost contact with it an hour and 45 minutes later.
