BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — After two and a half years of making renovations to the 14-story building, officials said the Mid-City Tower will be a major boost for Baton Rouge’s economy and particularly the Mid-City area.
Three years ago, the property was purchased by Mike Leggett in a sheriff’s sale, and after facing many obstacles It is essentially brand new, with high-end Class A finishes inside and out.
“So, everything has been updated in the building, we tried to keep the history of the building. This building has a lot of history,” said Leggett.
The 80,000-square-foot building was built in the 1960s and is a landmark for Baton Rouge and Mid-City. Officials said the facility is open for office and retail spaces to lease through Elifin Realty.
“Business owners would come in, they’ll occupy a floor we’ve got retail and office aspects of the building. We’re hoping some type of user will come in and get in there the rest of the building is office until you get up to the 14th floor,” said Jacob Loveland, Elfin leasing agent.
Officials said they are happy that the Mid-City Tower could be a part of the economic growth Baton Rouge is seeing. Bruce Kives works WHYR radio on the 15th floor of the building and he is amazed with the renovations.
“He’s done an amazing job with it. You cannot believe how bad it looked when we first got here and he has just renovated and he’s taking pains to renovate,” said Kives.
The office spaces cost between $12 to a little more than $17 per square foot a year.
