Negan tries his luck to fit in with the Whisperers on Sunday's "The Walking Dead."

But should the former Savior leader be afraid of the group who wear skin masks? Or should the Whisperers fear Negan?

"Probably the Whisperers," Josh McDermitt, who plays Eugene on "TWD," said of who should be more worried of who moving forward. "Just the fact that he is so loud and obnoxious and arrogant."

Eugene's very familiar with Negan's tactics since he served as one of his former lieutenants and bullet makers. On Sunday's episode, Negan annoys Beta (Ryan Hurst) constantly with his incessent chatter, which puts the Whisperer group in danger. Beta gets so annoyed with Negan that he eventually leaves him for dead.

Unfortunately for Beta, Negan fights his way through a group of the undead to surprise Alpha and prove to Beta that he's more than just a chatterbox. He's a formidable foe and claims he wants to join their group.

But Negan's well aware of how the skin wearers are threatening the communities and it's tough to imagine he would want to be a part of any group that may want to harm Rick's daughter, Judith, who he's become fond of. In the comics, Negan goes undercover with the Whisperers to eventually help rid of them.

"I'm not saying that Negan is going to do anything other than just be Negan. He could get himself and all the Whisperers killed," said McDermitt of how Negan's experience could go with the Whisperers on the show.

"That's why I'm more concerned for the Whisperers at this point because Negan's just yammering away and just being himself. I find that to be hysterical," he added.

While Negan's knee-deep in Whisperer territory, Eugene has steered clear of the group. He's been tinkering with the radio to great success and McDermitt says that's how he'd like things to stay.

"[The communities] they're still arguing over like, 'Well, did the tree just fall or was it just the Whisperers?" McDermitt says of the mystery tree falling into the Hilltop this season. "And [Eugene's] just like, 'Look, we can like sit here and fight and speculate and argue over this thing that nobody knows, or I can just bury myself in my work."

On Sunday's episode, his work in that area proves successful as he makes communication with a mystery woman who may be part of another community.

"[Eugene's] work is better suited with the radio and not — even though he's capable and can handle himself — on the front lines, killing a bunch of walkers unless he absolutely has to. So I think he's scared of them," said of Eugene's feelings on The Whisperers.

"I think he knows it's a problem," said McDermitt of the threat the Whisperers pose. "But I think that's also partially why he's wanting to reach out and build a larger society. Or at least reach out to other communities to get more alliances, to get society back to some version of what it was, so that we're not having people like the Whisperers running amok."

The final two episodes of this half season of "The Walking Dead" air on AMC at 9 p.m. on Sundays.
