Nationals Take 2-0 Lead in NLCS as Max Scherzer Silences the Cardinals

ST. LOUIS—The St. Louis Cardinals barely eked out a hit against Aníbal Sánchez. Imagine what happened when the Washington Nationals sent Max Scherzer to the mound.

The answer: exactly what you would expect. Scherzer carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning in Game 2 of the National League Championship Series, less than 24 hours after Sánchez lost his bid at history with two outs in the eighth. Paul Goldschmidt broke it up, smacking a line drive that fell in front of left fielder Juan Soto.
