A slasher ambushed a man on a Chelsea street Thursday night, slicing his face, arms and back, cops said.
The attacker, who is still on the loose, jumped out from between two parked cars on W. 29th St. by Seventh Ave. at about 5:20 p.m., and attacked the 27-year-old victim.
Medics took him to Bellevue Hospital in serious but stable condition.
The victim told investigators he didn’t know his assailant, but cops grew skeptical of that account after learning both he and the slasher were seen in the same gym earlier in the day, police sources said.
Blood pooled outside Modern store Fixtures & Designs, where the crime took place.
“We saw a guy being helped to the ambulance, there was some blood,” said Jesse Wang, 13. “When he was being helped, he was grabbing his arm. His nose was bleeding the most.”
Jesus Martinez, 35, said he saw the victim holding a towel on his neck right after the attack.
“There was a cut on his forearm and his back,” Martinez said. “He was standing alright, like nothing.”
Police describe the attacker as a black man, 25 to 30 years old and 6-foot-6, wearing a blue shirt, blue sweatpants, red sneakers and black gloves.
Cops are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
