News coming out of Parliament is that an employee has allegedly shot himself in one of the adjacent buildings on the Parliamentary precinct on Friday.
The man, a unit manager on the second floor of 90 Plein Steet, allegedly wielded a gun on Friday morning, threatening suicide, various Parliamentary officials told News24.
He then reportedly shot himself in his office.
Parliamentary staff at the scene told News24 they were concerned about how a weapon entered the building. Some said they will need trauma councilling.
An ambulance and police officials were present outside the building.
ANC caucus spokesperson Nonceba Mhlauli expressed condolences to the man who allegedly shot himself.
It wasn't immediately clear how the weapon was brought onto the precinct.
