The Broward County Sheriff’s Office released video surveillance footage Thursday that showed an armed school resource officer standing outside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School while the shooting rampage unfolded inside the building.
The video speaks for itself. His actions were enough to warrant an internal affairs investigation, as requested by Sheriff Scott Israel..."
The Sheriff's office said in a statement that accompanied the video
Why it matters: Deputy Scot Peterson resigned after being suspended without pay when authorities reviewed a video showing he failed to take action or engage with the shooter who killed 17 people. Peterson had defended his response to the mass shooting, saying that he thought gunshots were coming from outside the school building, not inside.
The video release came in response to a suit filed by media outlets and raises further questions about the actions of the sole-armed officer on campus during the incident.
Meanwhile, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating law enforcement responses to the shooting at the request of Gov. Rick Scott.
