Anne Sacoolas 'devastated' by death of Harry Dunn and wants to meet with his parents

Lawyers representing Anne Sacoolas have said she is "devastated by the tragic accident" and would like to meet with Harry Dunn's parents.

Harry Dunn was killed when he was struck by a car driven by Sacoolas, the wife of a US diplomat, who has since returned to America and claimed diplomatic immunity.

She is said to have been driving on the wrong side of the road for 400 yards when she hit the 19-year-old, who was riding his motorbike, as he left RAF Croughton, Northants in August.

Her legal team confirmed that contact had been made with the family's attorney, with a meeting set to be arranged "at the earliest opportunity".

In a statement obtained by ITV news, her lawyers said: "No loss compares to the death of a child and Anne extends her deepest sympathy to Harry Dunn’s family.

"She spoke with authorities at the scene of the accident and met with the Northampton police at her home the following day. She will continue to cooperate with the investigation.

"Anne would like to meet with Mr. Dunn’s parents so that she can express her deepest sympathies and apologies for this tragic accident."

Charlotte Charles, the mother of Harry Dunn

Harry's family have appealed to the Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab to intervene in the case, but were told the US government had twice refused requests for Sacoolas' immunity to be waived.

The teenager's mum Charlotte Charles, 44, and dad Tim Dunn, 50, are expected to land in America tomorrow (Sunday) to put pressure on US President Donald Trump to force the mum-of-three to return to the UK and answer questions.

The family have also set up a crowdfunding page to fund a campaign to "search for justice". It has raised more than £37,000.

Radd Seiger, the family's spokesman, told Sky News today (Saturday): “I have had a brief conversation with the legal representatives appointed on behalf of Anne Sacoolas and we have agreed to meet at the earliest opportunity.”

Anne Sacoolas fled to the US after the death

He also added that the parents are now appealing for witnesses to come forward if they saw Ms Sacoolas leaving the UK.

Mr Seiger said: "Anne Sacoolas left England to return to the USA following the road traffic collision outside RAF Croughton on August 27.

"The United States government has claimed she has the benefit of diplomatic immunity and has refused to grant the waiver sought by the British government."

He added: "I would urge anyone, on either side of the Atlantic, who has any information relating to Mrs Sacoolas’s return to the United States, whether before, during, or after her departure, to please come forward."

Northamptonshire Police have now passed a file to the CPS to decide on whether to prosecute her for causing death by dangerous driving.
