U.S. Worker Demand Softened Over the Summer

WASHINGTON—Employer demand for workers softened this summer, as job openings fell from a year earlier for the third consecutive month in August.

The number of job openings declined 4% in August from a year earlier to 7.1 million, after posting annual declines in June and July, Labor Department data released Wednesday showed.
