Jennifer Hawkins, executive director, SportsPittsburgh, was named to the advisory board of the EventConnect Sportology Conference. EventConnect is a cloud-based event and tournament management system for the sports tourism industry. The Sportology Conference focuses on issues related to sports technology.
POWER (Pennsylvania Organization for Women in Early Recovery) elected Dominika L. Brown to its board. Ms. Brown is the chief financial officer at Primary Care Health Services.
Lawrence R. John, M.D., a family medicine physician affiliated with UPMC St. Margaret and clinical instructor for the department of family medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, was sworn in as the 170th president of the Pennsylvania Medical Society.

Noveome Biotherapeutics Inc. appointed Kevin E. McCracken as senior vice president of operations.
Design
SmithGroup hired Jill Swensen as a principal and studio leader at its Pittsburgh office.

Parkhurst Dining hired Rebecca (Robertson) Funk as director of partnership development of corporate dining.

Greg Sullivan was named senior vice president, strategy and project management office, for HM Insurance Group.
Law
Tucker Arensberg P.C. named two of its senior associates, Jeremy Farrell and Rebecca Moran to the firm’s membership as shareholders (partners). Mr. Farrell is a civil litigator and management-side employment lawyer. Ms. Moran is an attorney in its business and finance group and is a member of its real estate and construction, energy, mergers and acquisitions, health care and financial institutions practice groups.
Benjamin E. Cohen joined the Harry S. Cohen & Associates as its newest attorney.
Eckert Seamans said Benjamin J. Dauber joined as an associate in its business division. He concentrates his practice in the firm’s business counseling, financial transactions, hospitality, and mergers and acquisitions practice groups.
Lauren Wylie joined Frost Brown Todd as a member in its business and commercial litigation and construction practice groups. Ms. Wylie has experience working with defense and energy contractors and government agencies engaged in federal programs and projects of all sizes and complexities.
Spina Law Associates P.C. said Briana C. Spina, daughter of F. Christopher Spina, has joined as a first-year associate. She is the third generation of attorneys in her family’s general practice law firm.

Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh said Yvonne Maher will be joining the organization as vice president for advancement and community engagement.
Awards and Honors
Kent Harries, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Pittsburgh’s Swanson School of Engineering, was elected a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers. The Fellow status, FASCE, signifies members of the organization who have made celebrated contributions to the field and developed creative solutions that have enhanced lives.

St. Margaret Foundation has officially designated its oldest fund from 1929 "The Rod Rutkowski Bed Fund" in memory of Mr. Rutkowski’s 38 years of service to under-resourced patients in need at St. Margaret Hospital. Mr Rutkowski, the director of health management at UPMC St. Margaret, passed away unexpectedly last week and oversaw disbursing Bed Fund donations for medication, medical devices, transportation and more to patients and families in need.
Pediatric neuropsychologist Dr. Jessica Bleil Walters has opened a private practice in Oakland — Community Diagnostic Center for Children, which offers neuropsychological and psychological testing services for children and adolescents.
In partnership with the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, the Consortium for Public Education is launching web-based resources for businesses and K-12 schools seeking opportunities to collaborate. Now available on the consortium’s website, the resources comprise examples of partnerships that a dozen major employers have established to give students experiences needed to explore and prepare for careers.
