Auto Sector’s Struggles Threaten Global Growth

The global auto industry is going through a shakeout rarely seen outside recessions.

Some forecasters think this is mostly a temporary result of the troubled global environment. But the converse is also true: The global economy is slowing in part because the auto industry is hitting structural headwinds that are raising costs and constraining sales.
