Coronation Street legends returning to ITV soap tonight - but there's tragedy in store

Mirror Online Entertainment 2 months ago

Coronation Street legends Emily Bishop and Norris Cole will be making an appearance on the ITV soap tonight, but their return will be marred with sadness as devastating news interrupts Ken Barlow's birthday.

Ken is surprised by his old pal Norris, played by Malcolm Hebden, as he celebrates his 80th this evening.

Actor Malcolm bowed out of the soap after suffering a heart attack in 2017, but briefly returned in May this year for his official exit storyline.

Emily is also back following actress Eileen Derbyshire's exit in 2016 after 55 years in the soap. However she won't be greeting Ken in the Rovers in person and will instead say hello via Skype.

Ken (Bill Roache) is delighted to see his old friends back again, but a dark cloud soon settles over the festivities as Daniel and Sinead reveal some devastating news.

Earlier, Daniel and Sinead meet with the oncologist, who tell them that she isn't responding well to the chemotherapy treatment.

Subsequently, they are told that she has only weeks to leave, leaving them both utterly devastated.

Sinead and Daniel deliver their somber news

Daniel tells her that Beth has also arranged to celebrate Bertie's first birthday at the Rovers, knowing that Sinead won't live to see her son turn one years old.

Sinead is touched, but when she arrives at the party she struggles to keep it together and tearfully tells the family about her diagnosis.

She later fears that she has ruined Ken's party, but he reassures her that she has done nothing of the sort.

When Sinead and Daniel leave, Ken announces the devastating news to everyone in the Rovers.

Back at the flat, Sinead apologises to Daniel that she has to leave him but she knows that Bertie is in good hands, prompting her husband to break down in tears.
