HALLOWEEN is just weeks away, so what better way to celebrate than getting into the spirit of the annual event than by watching a list of horror films on Netflix?
Here’s a list of the top seven horror movies available to stream on Netflix right now…
The 1996 slasher film is the first in the franchise which saw a further three sequels produced.
It’s inspired by the real-life Gainesville Ripper case and follows High Schooler Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) as she is targeted by an unknown killer wearing ghostface.
The classic features an all-star cast including Courteney Cox, David Arquette and Drew Barrymore to name a few.
And it also spawned the Halloween costume go-to – the Scream mask or ‘ghostface,’ so we can also thank it for that.
2. The Sixth Sense
‘I See Dead People’ is one of cinema’s most famous phrases and it’s all thanks to the 1999 classic.
The movie follows Cole Sear – a young boy who can see and communicate with dead people – as child psychologist Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis) helps him figure out the voices that he hears.
And we all know it ends with quite a big twist, though I won’t spoil it for you in case you’ve been living under a rock for the past twenty years!
3. Green Room
The 2015 horror-thriller movie sees Patrick Stewart play a very different role to the Shakesperean characters we’re used to.
In it he takes on the leader of a neo-Nazi skinhead cult who attacks a punk band.
It was an instant hit with critics and fans alike and to this day holds an impressive 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
4. The autopsy of Jane Doe
The 2016 supernatural horror film follows father-and-son coroner duo ( Emile Hirsch and Brian Cox) who discover some unsettling supernatural phenomena when examining the body a female victim – Jane Doe.
But unfortunately for them things go from bad to worse for them, making for a suspense-driven film.
The intellectually-gripping movie is more of a psychological thriller than a bloody, gory horror.
5. Cult of Chucky
The 2017 film is the seventh and latest in the Chucky franchise.
But the sequel did not disappoint with many critics hailing it just as strong as the original films.
It folloed 2013’s Curse of Chucky and centres around the iconic main protagonist Chucky doll on whom the films are based.
While it wasn’t a commercial hit, Mother! is a horror movie that’s certainly worth checking out – particularly if you’re a fan of US actress Jennifer Lawrence.
The Oscar award-winning star gives a chilling performance playing the lead role alongside her on-screen husband, portrayed by Javier Bardem.
The couple has their relationship tested when a number of invited guests arrive at their home and bringing all sorts of chaos to their tranquil existence.
7. Panic Room
Less gory than some of the other films on the list, Panic Room offers a more psychological thriller.
The movie more or less plays out within the setting of one house as Jodie Foster and a young Kristen Stewart try to defend themselves against intruders.
Many critics have compared director David Fincher’s masterpiece to the work of Alfred Hitchcock.
