THE X Factor has given fans a first look at its new Celebrity series.
Footage from the eagerly-anticipated series was unveiled on ITV’s instagram page last night, where Simon Cowell admits his ‘credibility is at stake’ with this latest gamble.
The teaser for The X Factor: Celebrity, which kicks off on Saturday 12th October, begins by showing the shows judges, Simon, Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger discussing the new twist on the singing show.
“It’s time for something different,” Simon announces while sat in the garden of his LA mansion.
“We’ve got a celebrity X Factor,” chips in Louis, while Nicole adds: “And they’re competiting for a record contract.”
Simon then goes on to admit he is nervous about how the star-studded spin-off might fare.
“My credibility is at stake,” he reveals. “If it doesn’t work, I look like a total idiot.”
Even host Dermot O’Leary seems nervous as he is seen turning to the camera saying, “I have no idea what to expect.”
The clip then launches into a montage showing the famous faces taking part in the series, which was all shot in LA this summer.
Glee actor Kevin McHale, talk show legend Ricki Lake and TOWIE favourite Megan McKenna are the first stars who pop up as they introduce themselves to the judging panel.
We also get our first glimpse of the Love Island supergroup ‘The Islanders’ featuring Wes Nelson, Zara McDermott, Eyal Booker and Samira Mighty.
The foursome look a tad nervous as they go down the line saying their names for Simon.
Later, The Chase star Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan describes herself as a ‘professional crusher of dreams” and former Hollyoaks actor Jeremy Edwards says that “people might be pleasantly surprised” by his talent.
But one of the most puzzling additions is news journalist Martin Bashir, who interviewed Princess Diana in her infamous Panorama interview.
“What are you doing here?” Louis asks him, speaking for the entire nation.
“I’m beginning to ask myself the same question,” the besuited broadcaster replies with a smile.
We are also treated to brief glimpse of rugby hunks Thom Evans and Ben Foden, former Corrie actress Victoria Ekanoye and EastEnders’ Jonny Labey.
There are also shots of industry big wigs in the audience, including Simon’s old American idol pal Randy Jackson and Pop Idol judge Pete Waterman.
It appears the series has also done away with its studio format and has filmed much of the action in the grounds of Simon’s LA mansion.
The show is careful not to reveal all of its secrets though, so we don’t here any of the contestants actually sing.
But Dermot is keen to ramp up the tension when he says: “Wait til the singing stars, then we’ll see conflict.”
And Louis adds to the drama by admitting: “It could be carnage.”
There clearly are some real gems in the bunch, however, as Simon is heard towards the end of the promo giving one unidentified act some glowing praise.
“That was as good as it gets” he says confidently, while Nicole is heard yelling “Yeah!”
One act even gives a seasoned pro like Dermot gets a shock when he announces: “Did not see that coming at all!”
