Cleveland, Ohio – No vintage Cleveland place is remembered as sweetly as Hough Bakeries, the chain that provided the flavor for Cleveland special occasions from 1903 to 1992

“It’s a great memory for anyone who grew up in Cleveland, east side, west side they were all around,” says Steve Presser, owner of Sweetie Big Fun store at Pinecrest lifestyle center.

For many people, those memories take the form of a white cake with a hint of almond, with white flower-decorated frosting, packaged in a white-and-blue box tied with a string.

For others, it’s petit fours or daffodil cake or coconut bars or maybe mushroom hors d’oeuvres.

Just this fall, Archie’s Hough Bakery opened at 3365 Richmond Road in Beachwood, keeping the flavor of Cleveland’s past alive. Since they opened, lines have formed down the block morning each open day.

Sweeties Big Fun at Pinecrest will be celebrating Hough Bakery this weekend - Friday, Saturday, Sunday. In addition to serving a free slice of Archie's Hough white cake to all visitors (beginning at noon), they will be selling unique nostalgic Hough items just in time for the holidays, including Hough magnets, T- shirts, coffee mugs, stickers, bottle openers and coasters.  They also have original vintage boxes, menus, bags, pins and other Hough memorabilia Presser has collected.

Lynn Ischay, The Plain Dealer

Presser will also be raffling of Hough items each day (no purchase necessary). Items include a Hough baseball hat, Hough boxes, stickers, magnet, mugs, menus and more.
