The 34-year-old actor, writer and producer will create TV content exclusively for Amazon Prime Video, which already screens Fleabag in more than 200 countries and territories including the US.
In a statement, Waller-Bridge said: “I’m insanely excited to be continuing my relationship with Amazon. Working with the team on Fleabag was the creative partnership dreams are made of. It really feels like home. I can[’t wait to get going.”
Head of Amazon Studios Jennifer Salke said: “We are thrilled to be continuing our partnership with Phoebe. As evident in her great success at the Emmy Awards this week, she is clever, brilliant, generous and a virtuoso on multiple fronts including writing, acting and producing.
“Fleabag has been a gift to our Prime Video customers and we are excited for what comes next from this brilliant mind to dazzle and delight our global audience.”
Waller-Bridge began her career in 2009 with an appearance in the play Roaring Trade, which was followed by roles in comedy series The Cafe and crime drama Broadchurch.
Her one-woman show Fleabag was introduced at Edinburgh Fringe festival in 2013, establishing the character as a conflicted and often selfish young woman struggling to work out her life in London.
It was then commissioned for a six-part series for BBC Three, which starred future Oscar-winner Olivia Colman along with Sian Clifford, Bill Paterson and Brett Gelman. A second series starred Andrew Scott as Fleabag’s love interest.
Waller-Bridge has also received critical acclaim as the writer and showrunner of the first season of the BBC America show Killing Eve, starring Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh. Comer won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role as the vicious assassin Villanelle, who is being hunted by MI5 operative Eve Polastri (Oh).
She will still executive-produce HBO’s romantic comedy thriller Run.
Waller-Bridge won three Emmys at the ceremony on Sunday 22 September: Lead Actress in a Comedy, Outstanding Writing in a Comedy, and Outstanding Comedy Series.
