Iconic television journalist Barbara Walters turns 90 on Sept. 25, 2019. In honor of the major milestone, we're looking back at her life and career through the years, including this shot of her in May 1965 on NBC's "Today" show.

Walters spoke to then-Cuban Prime Minister Fidel Castro during a news conference granted to members of the U.S. press covering Sen. George McGovern's trip to Havana in May 1975.

Walters and co-host Hugh Downs hugged at the NBC studios in June 1975 during Walters' final live broadcast on the morning news program.

Harry Reasoner and Walters co-anchored the ABC evening news beginning in October 1976.

Walters interviewed Sen. Edward M. Kennedy in Boston's Public Garden in May 1976.

Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat presented Walters with a handmade dress and mother-of-pearl box following an interview in Beirut on Sept. 21, 1977.

Lenore Hershey, editor of the Ladies' Home Journal, held an apricot cake so Walters could blow out the candles celebrating her 46th birthday in September 1977.

Former President Richard M. Nixon answered Walters' questions during an interview May 8, 1980.

Ronald Reagan and Walters walked along Madison Avenue in New York on Nov. 13, 1989. Walters was interviewing Reagan for a television special nearly a year after the former president left office.

Board members Robert De Niro, Barbara Walters and David Rockefeller attended the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation's press briefing on Jan. 5, 2005, about plans for the site. 

Walters attended the Museum of Television and Radio "She Made It" launch party on Dec. 1, 2005. "She Made It" celebrated the achievements of creative and business women in the television and radio industry.

The cast of "The View" — Meredith Vieira, Star Jones Reynolds, Walters, Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck — onstage during the 33rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards in 2006. The show, conceived by Walters, has been on the air since 1997. 

Rosie O'Donnell got a high five from Walters on joining "The View" in 2006, alongside Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

Walters received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on June 14, 2007.

It's not all business suits. Walters attended the Metropolitan Opera season opening performance at Lincoln Center on Sept. 22, 2008.

In 2009, she joined Gloria Vanderbilt in New York to celebrate the release of Vanderbilt's book "Obsession." 

President Barack Obama appeared on "The View" July 28, 2010, alongside co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Walters, Behar, Sherri Shepherd and Hasselbeck.

Guest David Letterman got a close-up look at Walters' barely visible surgical scar when he made an appearance on the first show of the 14th season of "The View" on Sept. 7, 2010. It was Walters' first live show after being off for several months for heart surgery.

Actor Jeffrey Tambor, producer Bill Geddie and Walters attended the TIME's 100 Most Influential People in the World gala on April, 23, 2013.

Nigerian actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde joined Walters at TIME's event the following year. 

Walters sat for a portrait for USA TODAY in May 2014 as she was preparing to retire.

Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg presented the 2014 Humanitarian Award to Walters during the American Friends of Magen David Adom Annual New York Benefit Dinner.

Gayle King was on the red carpet with Walters at the Hollywood Reporter's 35 Most Powerful People in Media on April 6, 2016.

Walters and actress Candice Bergen attended the New York Public Library Lunch 2016: A New York State of Mind.
