**Warning, spoilers ahead for Watchmen.**

HBO series Watchmen has finally hit screens and episode one left fans scratching their heads as to what happens next.

The superhero drama opened with the truly intense episode titled Running Out of Ice, and introduced us to Regina King’s character Detective Angela Abar/Sister Night – and a whole wealth of problems.

Now HBO has released a new trailer to show fans a glimpse of what’s to come.

In the premiere, creator Damon Lindelof asserted his series as a true sequel to the Alan Moore graphic novel and next he challenges viewers to consider the story of Sister Night (Regina King) – is she who she says she is?

Jeremy Irons’ Ozymandias also looks particularly sinister, cooking up some plan to show distrust among the American people in order to bring them together.

Jean Smart, who plays Laurie, is now working for the FBI and in the clip we also see a flash of Doctor Manhattan, who we saw briefly in last week’s opening instalment.

What is Watchmen about?

The series is based on Alan Moore’s classic graphic novel of the same name, with the synopsis telling us: ‘Watchmen takes place in an alternative, contemporary reality in the United States, in which masked vigilantes became outlawed due to their violent methods.

‘Despite this, some gather around in order to start a revolution while others are out to stop it before it is too late, as a greater question rises above them all; who watches the Watchmen?’

Regina leads the cast as Detective Angela Abar – aka Sister Night – joined by co-star Tim Blake Nelson (O Brother Where Art Thou?) as her detective partner, Looking Glass.

Watchmen is available to stream on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK.
