BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — There are many ways the community can save money while maintaining a cool living space as the weather gets hotter.
Entergy Louisiana spokesperson David Freese said these ways include setting your thermometer at 78 degrees. He shares that every degree below 78 can actually add three percent to your bill.
“So if you’ve dropped your thermostat from 78 to 75, you’ve potentially raised your utility bill by about 9%,” he said.
Other energy efficiency tips he suggests are changing air filters, closing vents in rooms that aren’t being used, using fans, closing blinds and drapes and even having your fan spin counterclockwise which allows the air to get drawn towards you.
All these tips are recommended as part of the Beat the Heat Program which aims to help Entergy customers as the temperature rises.
Other ways the program is helping residents is by distributing fans to the community through partner agencies, conducting neighborhood sweeps in select areas to weatherize homes and more.
