ASCENSION PARISH, LA. (BRPROUD) – Residents who live in the Dutchtown area of Ascension Parish, believe the “Dutchtown Grinch” has taken Christmas decorations from their entrances.
According to the Lakes at Dutchtown Association President, Darrell Franklin, “a real-life Grinch really attacked our neighborhood, like, unbelievable.”
Really, everything that happened in the movie, is literally what just happened to our neighborhood. The Grinch stole all of our Christmas decor,” said Franklin.
He said, “we had lighted Christmas trees, we had lighted deer, like a deer that was up and a deer that was down grazing and all of it is, it’s all gone.”
The only Christmas decor left at the front entrance was a plaid holly bow.
Jared Landry has lived in the development for years and has never seen any criminal activity in the neighborhood. He said, “I mean, at least the Grinch was fun, this person’s just, you know, a low life.”
“The neighborhood does something nice like put out decorations that the HOA spends money to provide for the neighborhood and somebody decides to come and destroy or take it, it’s a shame,” said Landry.
Residents who live in Dutchtown Lakes said that three other neighborhoods in the area have had their Christmas decorations stolen at the front entrance.
Franklin and several others within the area have filed a police report. However, Franklin claimed he won’t press charges if the items are returned. “I really hope, just like in the movie, the Grinch grows a heart,” said Franklin.
Landry said he is keeping an eye on his cameras. “If you have on this block your own decorations that you spent your hard earned money on, whose to say that somebody won’t come and try to destroy that or take that as well,” said Landry.
