BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Parents, students, teachers and community stakeholders came together to voice their opinions at a community town hall meeting hosted by East Baton Rouge Parish School Board President, Dadrius Lanus.
Topics included school safety, school resource officer needs and even more budget implementation on cleaning among school campuses.
Lanus said the goal of the townhall meeting was to get community input and find out what needs to be discussed, shifted, taken out and prioritized when it comes to the proposed school budget of $544 million.
“We wanted to know what they see or what their thoughts are around prioritizing on what should go inside of our budget. And I heard a lot of concerns, one of which was school safety, pay raises across the board, not just for teachers. These are the things that us as as a board or we as a board rather need to hear as we dialogue before we approve our budget,” he said.
Lanus said the school board has until June 29th to approve the budget. After that, the school board has until September to finalize it. He says he will continue to host townhall meetings throughout the month of June to make sure the school district caters to the needs of the community.
