Bayern Munich are set to compete for the signing of Victor Osimhen from Napoli this summer, with the forward open to a move to the Bundesliga champions.
Osimhen is one of the most in-demand forwards in Europe following a prolific season at Napoli, one which has seen the Nigeria international score 21 goals in 23 league appearances for the Serie A leaders.
The 24-year-old is the leading scorer in Italy this season, for a Napoli side who are 16 points clear at the top of the division and closing in on a first Scudetto since 1990. Luciano Spalletti’s side have also reached the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time and will meet AC Milan in the first leg of their last eight tie on Wednesday evening.
Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are all said to be interested in Osimhen, but Sky Sports Germany are reporting that Bayern have entered the race. The German giants are targeting a new centre-forward after failing to sign a like-for-like replacement for Robert Lewandowski last summer.
Bayern are understood to be prepared to break their transfer record to land Osimhen and a figure of around €100m is not out of reach. Despite admitting earlier this season that a Premier League move would be his ‘dream’, Osimhen is open to a move to Munich this summer.
The Nigerian had an unsuccessful spell at Wolfsburg earlier in his career, though it would not influence his decision on a potential return to the Bundesliga.
Bayern have alternatives if Osimhen is deemed out of financial reach, which include Eintracht Frankfurt forward Randal Kolo Muani and Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos. The latter appears the more affordable alternative, despite a breakout season in Portugal that has seen the 21-year-old score 25 goals in all competitions.
