BCCI has announced the India Men’s and Women’s domestic schedule for the 2023/24 season today (April 11) – here’s all you need to know about the upcoming Indian domestic season, including the tournament dates, schedule, and formats for both men and women.
How many matches will be played?
The domestic calendar will see 1846 matches being played across formats, age groups, and genders between June 2023 and March 2024.
How many tournaments are there in all?
The 2023/24 Indian domestic season will include seven senior men’s tournaments, nine age-group tournaments for men, three senior women’s tournaments, five age-group women’s tournaments and one inter-university tournament.
When does the season begin?
The season will kick off with the Duleep Trophy on June 28, featuring six zonal teams: North, South, East, West, Central, and North-East.
What does the men’s schedule for 2023/24 include?
Duleep Trophy, the multi-day tournament, will be followed by the Prof. Deodhar Trophy which is making a comeback in India’s domestic calendar after three years. This tournament will also see six zonal teams fight it out, albeit in the 50-over format.
The Deodhar Trophy will be followed by the Irani Cup, where Saurashtra will face off against the Rest of India, starting October 1, 2023. The next two months will see the two premier white ball competitions: the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in the T20 format, and the Vijay Hazare Trophy in the 50-over format, take place between October 16 and December 15.
Both these tournaments will be played between 38 teams, divided into three groups of eight teams and two groups of seven teams each. The senior men’s season will end with the Ranji Trophy, the premier first-class tournament, which is scheduled to start on January 5, 2024.
The Ranji Trophy will have two divisions: the Elite Division and the Plate Division. The Elite Division will have 32 teams competing in four groups of eight each, while the Plate Division will see six teams fight it out in a single group.
What does the women’s schedule for 2023/24 include?
The senior women’s domestic season will start on October 19, 2023, with the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy. A total of 37 teams will compete in it, divided into two groups of eight and three groups of seven each. This will be followed by the Senior Women’s Inter Zonal T20 Trophy, which will see six zonal teams compete against each other, starting November 24.
The senior women’s season will end with the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy which will follow a similar format of groups as the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy. This tournament will start on January 4, 2024, with the final on January 26.
